Publication Policy

  • Aim and Scope: Samyukta: A Journal of Gender and Culture (ISSN No: 2583-4347) is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed, academic journal published by Women’s Initiatives from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India since 2016. It aims to revisit the received ideas within the ambit of Liberal Humanities and redefine the basic concepts in keeping with their closely held convictions. It is dedicated to publishing original research articles that are crucial in furthering thought and dialogue on issues pertaining to gender and culture. The journal also provides a space for regional writing in translation as well as for works of creative expression. It publishes research articles, book reviews, Life Writing and interviews.
  • The journal is published bi-annually, in January and July.
  • The journal only considers articles written in English.
  • There is no submission/publication fees.
  • It is an open access journal which is available in the journal’s website for free.
  • Original articles, unpublished or not considered for publication elsewhere, are welcome.
  • The articles are peer-reviewed, first internally and then by external experts. Every article goes through three levels of review (Editor, Editor –in –Chief and External Reviewer). The peer-review is double-blind. Papers may be approved, rejected, or approved with revisions,

  • Copyright of the work is retained by the author. The journal has the right of initial publication, indexing, inclusion in database, editing and distribution of the work. The work is simultaneously licensed under a liberal CC-BY license. As it is an open-access journal, there would be immediate free access to the work and it permits any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose.
  • Steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication will be carried out. Turnitin is used to prevent plagiarism.
  • Complaints shall be handled by the Editor responsible for the journal. The editorial board will investigate the matter and the complainant will be given appropriate feedback.
  • The editor shall follow COPE’s guidelines (or equivalent) in dealing with allegations.
  • Editors and members of the editorial board will not be involved in considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
  • Publishing includes acceptance of our policy of ethical oversight, which is in tune with COPE’s policy.
